| "Owning your own business is a lot more than
what your product or service is." -D. Wagner What's in a name? How do you make a successful career in the music business? You've heard it all before, lots of really hard work. I'm writing this @ 2:30 in the morning because I feel compelled to start a discussion that anyone with the same desires can relate to. Recognizing a band enough to say "I've heard of them before" is the immediate goal (create a buzz). But where is square one? I've had that debate on a semi-weekly basis with my business partner Dave Wagner. We make up the production team that is Happen-Stance Productions. http://www.happenstanceproductions.com Step One: define what success is... So you as the artist are likely to know about all things music but then you through money, business and contracts into the picture and suddenly it doesn't seem so fun anymore, or does it? Maybe a manager can help with all of that. Maybe it is better to do it all yourself. It comes down to how you feel about your music and what success means to you. If it is living in a fifty million dollar house with forty cars and the IRS on your doorstep with their hands out then fine. But you better have a feasible plan as to how to get there. Think global, act Local! just a couple of thoughts to start you on your way... --Mark
